Catherine Couturier Gallery is delighted to present Museum Studies, an exhibition of new work by gallery artist Maggie Taylor.
Known for her provocative compositions and unmistakable artistic fingerprint, Maggie Taylor creates new work inspired by museums and their contents. While Taylor has visited museums for more than 50 years, her experience of looking at art and history still amazes her. Weaving together fiction and memory, Taylor explores the rich history held in our cultural institutions as well as our symbols. For more than 25 years, Maggie Taylor has practiced her innovative technique which includes the use of a flatbed scanner instead of a traditional camera to record and interpret the objects she collects. Although her images are not traditional photographs, she thinks of her scanner as a light-sensitive recording device.
Maggie Taylor’s work is held by numerous public and private collections including The Art Museum, Princeton University, Princeton, NJ; The Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA; Harn Museum of Art, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, TX; and The Museum of Photography, Seoul, Korea.
