mannequin figure disappears into bright green bamboo-themed furnishings

We are excited to share Patty Carroll's latest feature in Colossal Magazine! Kate Mothes discusses how Patty's artistry extends beyond mere representation, as she skillfully employs symbolism and visual metaphor to satirize mid-century notions of the "happy home-maker." Her meticulous attention to detail, combined with a keen eye for composition, results in images that are both visually captivating and intellectually stimulating.

Within her ongoing Anonymous Woman series, Carroll skillfully captures scenes of domestic discord and calamity, portraying instances such as a woman seeking refuge from a bug infestation or tumbling from her office chair while clutching a phone. “(The mannequin) stands in for all of us who are obsessed with our homes, whether it is the décor or activities inside that make us ‘homemakers,'" the artist shares. Additionally, the meticulously crafted domestic scenes are brought to life with the assistance of her collaborator, Andie Meadows.
