Maggie Taylor New Work

Posted on Jun 8, 2017

Maggie Taylor combines 21st century technology with 19th century tin-types and photographs which she scans into photoshop to alter, color and combine images with found objects and photographs she has taken herself to create her dreamscapes. While many of the objects included in her works are symbolic, there is no one meaning given to them. The result is an ambiguous narrative which plays off of the memories and associations of the viewer to create a unique personal relationship between them and the work. While her works enigmatic symbolism might imply a universal narrative accessible to all, Maggie Taylor also sees these works as almost autobiographical as they draw inspiration from her everyday life, her feelings, memories and dreams.

The juxtaposition seen in her engagement with 19th century photography and 21st century technology, the ambiguous and the explicit, and the personal and universal has carried over into her most recent works which are a continuation of her series "Through the Looking Glass." Now and Later engage with the changes that occur with the passage of time and creates a conversation between the present and the future.
