Photographer Susana O'Docharty is having a solo show Texas Sticks and Memories Stored opening at Aker Imaging Gallery.

Artist Reception: October 3rd, 2015 6-8 p.m.
Showing: October 3 - October 28, 2015

Susana was always fascinated and attracted to the vast lands and never-ending telephone poles and silos encountered on family drives. Before the complications of life set in she felt a sense of comfort and ease in these simple structures. Later in her travels through Texas she found those feelings represented in these simple structures.  Old glass transformers and the many shades of silos became objects of beauty as she explored the miles and miles of Texas.  Stark, simple images convey the loneliness and vastness of the road in childhood memories and bring her sense of ease and comfort to the viewer.

"As a 6th generation Texan with a Venezuelan mother, I spent my first 18 years growing up in Venezuela and going back & forth to Texas during summer vacations. During the year, I would be deeply rooted in a mixture of Latin culture and expatriate life. Summers were dedicated to visiting my Irish-American grandmother in San Patricio, Texas. There I would take in the vistas of farm life: cows, telephone poles, cotton fields, silos and horny toads. It is a path that I continue to enjoy and am constantly trying to capture through my photographs. I often take to the Texas roads and allow the good memories to come flooding back in." - Susana O'Docharty
