A Day for Guy

Bojangles Music School and the Continental Club will present A Day for Guy, a family-friendly live music celebration of songs the legendary Guy Clark wrote and his favorites he didn’t write, on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the Continental Club’s backyard.

A Day for Guy 2022

Tickets are $10 for adults, while children 18 years-old and younger will be admitted for free. Other key info:

Tickets are available exclusively at the door.
Only CASH is accepted.

Featuring performances by Matt Harlan, John Egan, Katie Rushing, Brent McLennan of The Broken Spokes, Mason Lankford of Folk Family Revival, Gabe Wootton, Paul Beebe, Kory Quinn, and many more, A Day for Guy is another labor of love from the team behind A Night for Guy, the acclaimed Houston Guy Clark tribute whose past four installments have drawn surprise special guests ranging from Lyle Lovett and Hayes Carll to Verlon Thompson, Shawn Camp, and Noel McKay.

Proceeds from A Day for Guy will benefit 90.1 KPFT, Houston’s fiercely independent community radio station and the first to ever play Guy Clark.

In addition to mining Clark’s rich oeuvre, A Day for Guy performers will also sing songs written by his friends, peers, and younger artists he nurtured.

Bojangles Music School founder and A Night for Guy co-founder and host Shawn Parks will also emcee A Day for Guy. In an exciting first, several Bojangles Music School students will also perform at A Day for Guy, helping to ensure that the next generation of Houston-raised players value the city’s crucial role as a folk music incubator and creative hub.

Guy Clark was born in Monahans, Texas, and grew up in Rockport, before spending several of his early, artistically formative years in Houston. He met Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker, and others in the city, where he also first performed in venues including Rockefeller’s, Anderson Fair, Sand Mountain Coffee House, The Jester, and more.

November 6––the date of A Day for Guy––is Clark’s birthday. The legendary songwriter would have turned 81 this year, and the party in Houston will be a joyful reflection of the brilliance and sheer volume of his song catalog, to which Clark added decade after decade with undiminished skill. Jerry Jeff Walker, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, and others recorded his songs and helped make them famous. His own albums serve as cornerstones of American folk music that somehow encapsulate the artistic highs the genre can achieve all while offering warm, instantly accessible comfort.

Listening to a Guy Clark song, you can't help but see his characters, understand them––and then feel seen and understood yourself.

A Day for Guy is the latest addition to Bojangles Presents, the arm of Bojangles Music School dedicated to producing events that highlight Houston’s rich local music scene, showcase aspiring performers, and connect people of all ages to the dynamic music history rooted in the Bayou City.
