The Last Goodbye

The Last Goodbye

Eschewing the use of traditional cameras, Susan Burnstine creates her dream-like visions entirely in-camera with one of over twenty hand-made film cameras and lenses. Though frequently unpredictable and often technically challenging, these cameras (an amalgam of plastic, vintage parts and random household objects) and their extensive limitations demand a high level of instinct and intuition--the same tools that are key when trusting in the unseen.

Burnstine, a Los Angeles base photographer, has been featured in various international publications, including B&W Magazine, Photo Magazine Romania and Rangefinder Magazine. Her work can be found in private and public collections throughout the world, most notably at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, The Capital Group in Los Angeles, and recently in solo exhibition at the AD Galerie in Genolier, Switzerland.

Within Shadows, Burnstine's first monograph, was recently released in Europe at the Venice Biennale in June 2011 and arrived stateside in September 2011. The book has since gone on to win the Gold award for PX3 Prix de la Photographie Paris in the Professional Fine Art Books category and a Bronze overall.
